Here We Go Again

In just 6 days Alice and I will be setting off on our first cruising adventure since March 2020. The pandemic has caused the cancellation of many booked cruises since then and we are eager to get going.

This will be a novel trip for us. It begins with us flying to Amsterdam where we will board a flight to Split, Croatia. That is where we will meet Sean and Shelly to embark on a 47-foot catamaran as Sean's present for my milestone birthday. For a week we will sail the Dalmation islands near Split with a captain Sean has hired. He will provide the local knowledge and suggestions to enable us to truly enjoy the experience. We will assist as crew as much as possible.

At the end of the week, we will fly to Venice. Holland America will provide a transfer to Trieste where we will board Oosterdam for 43 days. This is necessary because Venice is not permitting cruise ships to dock there. This cruise will visit Italy, Croatia, Greece, the Greek Islands, Turkey, Montenegro, Malta and Sicily.

All of the travel arrangements and insurance are in place. The one remaining hurdle is to get a negative Covid test the day before boarding Oosterdam. That should happen either at the Split airport or the Venice airport when we arrive. The test must be negative, so we will be taking precautions between now and then.
