Jaffa and the Tel Aviv Sites was our excursion for today. We gave ourselves a break and chose this tour because it was only 5 and 1/2 hours long. It was a good choice. Jaffa is the world’s oldest port. It is said that Jonah started his adventure with the whale here. Today narrow alleyways wind their way through old stone buildings. These are now home to a multitude of galleries and arts and crafts shops. Interspersed are many restaurants and cafes. We found it charming. The clock tower built in 1906 still watches over the port. It is the most famous landmark.
After our pleasant walk through Jaffa, we drove through Tel Aviv. This bustling city is modern and vibrant. It provides an interesting contrast to the surrounding historic sites. Unlike our experiences in Egypt, everything here was very clean and inviting.
We were happy that we chose to visit here. The tour was short and the walks were pleasant. We returned to the ship early enough to have a good lunch and rest before dinner. We looked forward to the next day’s travels with more enthusiasm.
It was a very nice day.
