August 8, 2023 - Tuesday - Sea Day
Last night was an adventure and today is a terror. Soon after midnight the wind started howling from our veranda door. It was not coming in. It was just noisy with a minor draft. That was the easy part. The pitching and rolling was in full swing. The wind was coming from the northwest at 45 to 55 knots. Call it 50 miles per hour plus. It was coming from ahead of the ship on the right side. This made getting to the bathroom a challenge. Getting dressed in the morning was challenge enough for us to decide to forego breakfast.
Alice worked on updating her notes and reviewing photos. I spent the time drafting this blog. I had no idea when we would get satisfactory internet, but I hoped to be ready. The internet was a problem because the ship’s system is slow and AT&T has reduced my data speed to the lowest rate because I have exceeded my data allowance. Before they did that they cut me off entirely and gave me a phone number to call to get reinstated. Hah! They sent the message on Friday at about 10:30 PM our time. When I called the number on Saturday I got a digital response that I would have to call on Monday. The office was closed for the weekend. Before we left home I was evaluating AT&T alternatives. I am now convinced that we will change to T-Mobile for both internet and cellular service. The only possible deterrent might be their international plan. I need to check it out.
At noon the motion was not quite as violent and we went up to Windows, the buffet, for lunch. The food in Windows has been outstanding as has been the service of the crew. Today was no exception. We enjoyed marvelous offerings and accepted help from the servers to get the plates to our table without event. We do not experience seasickness. The motion does not bother us that way. It is our sea legs or lack thereof that has us walking like drunken sailors. We toughed it out and had an enjoyable lunch.
We did more work in our stateroom until the Azamara Circle cocktail party in the Living Room at 5:30. We were lucky to find a spot with a couch and two chairs. Soon we notice a couple come in and start looking for seating. We asked them to join us and we had a wonderful time. This was their first Azamara cruise. They were from Waukesha, Wisconsin. As we chatted we learned that they had been loyal Celebrity cruisers and had amassed a number of points in that loyalty program. We knew that in the past Celebrity owned Azamara, so we suggested that they ask the loyalty ambassador onboard about transferring their points. Surely they would become Azamara royalty. We enjoyed the rest of the party with them and went our separate ways to dinner. When we saw them the following day in the dining room they told us all of their Celebrity points had transferred to Azamara and they were high up in loyalty tiers. They could not thank us enough.
Since we boarded the first cruise on July 24 with Sean and Shelly, we have dined at a table served by Arlene and her assistants. They have gotten to know us and our likes very well. They always have our wines ready and Arlene recognized that I occasionally ordered the cheese plate for dessert. She now brings it as an appetizer while we wait to place our orders and have the first service. The cheese selection varies by day and is always very nice. This evening’s rocking did not interfere with their excellent service at all.
After dinner we attended the show and retired in preparation for our visit to Aberdeen tomorrow.
