February 10, 2018 - Markets and Rose Bay

Today is Saturday, February 10

We started the day with a visit to The Rocks Market. This consists of several blocks of stalls. I was in search of a belt with a removable buckle so that I could use a buckle I purchased in Arizona several years ago. No luck. All of the belts had riveted buckles.

Then we were off to Paddington Market. After purchasing our Opal cards we boarded a bus for the 30 minute ride. It was interesting to see the bustle in the neighborhoods outside the central business district. We arrived at the market located in a very large church yard. This was more like what we wanted. The majority of the vendors were crafts people. We did not see any cheap imports here. In fact we did not see any cheap here, but the quality was very high. I found a man who made belts. Looking through his stock I found only three belts with snaps for changing the buckles. The first was too long. The second was just right. After some good natured haggling it was mine. We spent couple of hours enjoying the exchange of ideas with many of the crafters before taking a bus back to Circular Quay.

There we boarded the ferry to Rose Bay.  20 minutes later we were walking the beaches. This is a sleepy community compared to the other beach locales we had visited. The house were all neat and tidy. The "downtown" was small and friendly. All the locals we met were very helpful. At one beach we stopped to sit on a bench for a while. It turned out that we were right in front of the seaplane terminal. We watched two the off and one land. All had to dodge the many sailboats out for the day. The seaplane that landed, took off shortly. As he made his run he suddenly veered left. A sailboat had just headed into his path. All went well and he climbed away. We walked back to the ferry terminal.

Back at The Rocks we went to Mass and then dinner at an Italian restaurant we had dined at three years ago. Great! Home again we tidied up our luggage and affixed the tags provided by Holland America. All was ready.
