We arrived in Hobart on
time under cloudy skies. The day did not look promising, but we soldiered on.
We walked along the harbor toward Battery Point and Arthur Circus. We had
walked to these places on our 2015 visit. It was fun to see them again, but the
hills were challenging for Alice’s knees.
We waked downhill back
to city center where we visited a number of shops and galleries in the
Salamanca District. Two galleries in particular held our attention. We remembered
them from before. They had even nicer products now. I purchased a very nice
pair of earrings and a heart shaped pendant for Alice for Valentine’s Day. We
also crooned over a beautiful dining room table and chairs. A variety of local
woods were used in their handmade creation. The craftsmanship was amazing. It
could be shipped to the US, but the cost was prohibitive for us. If we lived in
Tasmania, we would have purchased it.
Back onboard the captain
explained that the storm had strengthened, so he was changing our route of
departure to head north toward Bass Straight between Tasmania and the mainland
before we would head west toward Kangaroo Island. This would keep us in the
shelter of Tasmania before heading into the storm.
