March 14, 2019 - Sea Day - Thursday , Day 67

March 14, 2019 - Sea Day - Thursday , Day 67

What is an easy day at sea like?

We started this sea day with Mass followed by a leisurely breakfast in the dining room that lasted until 9:30. We had anticipated an easy day. Especially me, since I got my blog posts caught up yesterday.

Well that lasted until until  10:30. I had to get to the showroom then to score a good seat for the 11:00 lecture on The Bugis and Sulawesi. After lunch there was an irreconcilable conflict. The guest chef was giving a cooking demo at 1:00, but at 1:15 I would have to be back in the showroom for the 1:30 lecture on Indonesia. The lecture won. I decided it would be too difficult to get the ingredients at home for the Malaysian recipes.

I remained in the showroom for the 2:30 lecture, The Legacy of Alfred Wallace. I am glad I stayed because I discovered that I knew nothing about Wallace. As a contemporary of Charles Darwin, his work in gathering specimens in Southeast Asia led to confirmation of the theory of evolution and collaboration with Darwin. This was another example of the scholarly aspects of this InDepth cruise and itinerary.

And it did not stop there. The 4:30 talk, Evolution of Fishes maintained the high standard of relevant educational content.

Now it was time to prepare for our 5:30 reservation in The Pinnacle Grill. What a delightful dinner that was. And it was over in time to attend the 7:15 Evening Insight: Poodles of the Sea. These 1/2 hour sessions are sandwiched between early dinner and the first performance of the evening’s entertainment. This presentation covered fish that live on the corals and farm algae. We learned that while this might sound innocent enough, it actually has a negative effect on the corals.

Now we moved to the showroom to attend guest artist Naomi’s performance of classical piano material.

At last it was bedtime. What, an easy day?
