January 17, 2019 - Sea Day on Our Way to Komodo Island - Thursday, Day 12
Today is a sea day before we reach Komodo Island and the Komodo Dragons. We started with a 10:00 lecture on Indonesia culture and customs. At 11:00 The Armchair Ornithology lecture exposed us to the birds of the region.
12:00 was lunch in the Lido. The Asian buffet featured Thai dishes today. The noodles and stir fried vegetables were excellent.
At 1:00 a Swiss chef who has live in Indonesia for 30 years and has several restaurants there taught us how to prepare a fish dish with spices tomato sauce. The bulk of his instruction pertained to proper use and preparation of chilis and vegetables He also spent a fair amount of time on spices. We learned a lot.
2:00 had us back in the showroom fo r lecture on the ports of call in Indonesia after Komodo Island. Bret is the new assistant guide for the Expedition Central program. Hid delivery is excellent and his content is very helpful. We now have greater insight into our next three ports. This is helpful not only for choosing the ship’s excursions but also for planning independent touring. Bret’s enthusiasm not only made for an excellent presentation, it got us all jacked up for these upcoming visits.
From 3:00 to 5:00 I did some more work online and prepared the blog posts for the past 2 days. Then I met Alice in the stateroom and prepared for our second Gala Night. This dinner was very nice. The couple seated at the table next to ours was good company We had a good time.
At 8:00 we attended the show put on by Voce. These 4 young lady vocalists featured classical as well as pop numbers. They opened the show with O Fortuna from Carmina Burana and just got better from there. The mis of pops and classics was perfect. We hope the get an encore performance.
We retired at 9:30 to be rested for our time on Komodo Island tomorrow.
