July 5,Tuesday- Charter Day 3
Today is a Chill Day as Ivor calls it. We motored from Komiza to Soline Bay, a protected bay in the Pakleni islands near the island Hvar. Our mooring here was free because we would dine at the hilltop restaurant tonight.
Alice and I wanted to swim here. It is a condition of swimming for Alice to wear a life jacket. Ivor got out one of the boat’s jackets for her. It was safety certified and apparently cheap. It was so thick that when Alice put it on she could barely turn her head and move her arms. Nonetheless she bravely donned it and stepped down the swim ladder. Then just to be safe she tried to get up the ladder and back on the boat. I was with her in the water and Ivor was on the boat. With our encouragement and assistance she got back onboard. The jacket made it too difficult for swimming to be enjoyable for her. We relaxed onboard and were entertained by new boats picking up their moorings and by the antics of people on nearby boats.
Ivor went to visit a skipper friend in another bay. When he returned we all got ready for dinner. The tender had 3-4 inches of water in it. Our shoes were soaked when we arrived onshore.
The walk up the hill to the restaurant was gentle but a bit difficult because of the rocks and gravel. We made it and had an excellent meal. The hostess even brought out her guitar and serenaded us with local songs. Then she broke out in happy birthday for Alice. Everyone joined in.
We walked down the hill with our phones providing light on the path. We sloshed back to Smile in our wet tender. Sleep came quickly.
