7/2/22 Getting There
Today we started on our new adventure. The taxi arrived this afternoon at 2:20 for our requested 2:30 pickup. We are always pleased with an early start. At least we know our our driver’s GPS can tell the difference between Gateshead North and Gateshead South. The ride to O’Hare was pleasant thanks to a personable driver.
Since we had checked in online we were able we use the new luggage drop system that United has implemented. We went to a very short express lane and after the agent scanned our passports I placed each of our 3 bags on the scale. She tagged them to Amsterdam, gave us our claim checks. Because the only reasonable flight from Amsterdam to Split was on EasyJet she could not check them through to Split. We made our way to security. TSA Pre got us through quickly.
Our gate was C18. United’s Polaris Lounge was right next to it. We took advantage of the business class per and spent our next 2 hours there. Boarding started on time, but as departure time neared it was announced that we were waiting for the last passenger to arrive. He was in the terminal. Almost 20 minutes later a young man with a large backpack casually sauntered aboard.
We left the gate and because we missed our slot we experienced a ground delay. What we had been told would be a 45 minute early arrival would now be an on time arrival. That sounds good, but see tomorrow.
