It was a long drive to Istanbul. We arrived in early afternoon on the Asian side of the Bosporus. A leisurely boat ride gave us good views of both the Asian and European sides of the city. When we passed the new Galataport, their were no cruise ships docked. We got to see it with the security walls down. People were able to walk to the water’s edge. This was impossible when Oosterdam docked here in July. It was a treat to have experienced the port under both configurations. Our boat passed under Galatea bridge and into the Golden Horn. We docked and boarded the coach for the ride to our hotel.
We got checked into our rooms with a little time to refresh for dinner. This was our farewell dinner as we would go our separate ways in the morning. It was a short drive to the restaurant. Dinner was excellent. The goodbyes were both pleasant and sad. Emails were shared and invitations were extended. This was all very sincere, but we know from other experiences that we will probably not meet in any way again. That does not diminish this experience. It has been a very good time.
