October 7, 2022 - Friday - Inland to Pamukkale

Today is a travel day as we leave Izmir to drive inland to Pamukkale. Tomorrow will be an active day and since today’s drive was tiring we were to arrive early and take advantage of the hotel’s thermal pools..

Along the way we stopped at the Donna Milan leather factory. They are the developers of a very thin, supple and lightweight leather. Its purpose is to allow fashionable leather to be worn in warmer climates. This was explained to us by the manager. Then we were treated to a fashion show of their products. There were ladies and men’s jackets. Some were reversible with colorful parachute fabric opposite the leather. Others had designs printed on the back of the leather. A few had contrasting leather inside. And some were not reversible. The show was fun. The showroom following was more fun. Staff was there to assist in anyway.

During the show Alice and I did not communicate our likes and dislikes. The clerk who came to assist us started with the more expensive jackets. Price and fit were the deterrents. Finally, having sized Alice, he took us to a reversible pattern in pale turquoise leather with a plaidish reversible side. Alice liked it and I liked it. This was the style that both of us had silently decided was our favorite. From here it was easy to negotiate the sale. We look forward to Alice wearing it when we get home. It should be great for fall and spring wear. Dummy me did not take a picture of it.

We did arrive in Pamukkale in mid afternoon. Our first stop was for photos of the face  of the hills. Tomorrow we will go to the top.

While there was time for the pools at the hotel, Alice and I chose to tour the grounds and buildings. This is a sprawling hotel with nicely maintained public spaces and landscaping.  Sadly the rooms are not as well maintained. Our shower had 2 folding doors at one time. Not now. The panel closest to the shower head was gone. Judging from the amount of corrosion on the brackets it has been gone a long time. We guessed it must be cheaper to have the housekeeper dry the floor than to replace the door. We had to be careful not to slip on the wet marble.

Dinner in the hotel was good. Sleep came quickly.
