October 17, 2022 - Monday- Athens Day 3

We had another good breakfast. We tried the omelettes with feta cheese and spinach. Alice added tomato to hers. Excellent. After breakfast we went for a walk. The area is crowded with hotels. Many of them, especially those on our block, are rehabbed old buildings. Those exteriors have been modernized and the buildings have lost any character they might have had. Hera stands here dignified, warm and inviting. We hope she stays this way. Inside the rooms have been redone without taking away the charm. We love it.W

First we stopped at a pharmacy for some cough medicine. About a week ago a cough started circulating on the coach. Saba suggested wearing masks on the coach. Alice and I did that for the duration, but we were surrounded by coughers. I started coughing 5 days ago and feel better but I am still congested. Alice started2 days ago and is hacking up a storm.

The pharmacist suggested an expectorant. It has a natural base with no alcohol or sugar. It goes down easy with no aftertaste. It seems to be having a good effect on me, but Alice is coughing quite a bit more. I hope she is doing better tomorrow. We don’t want to scare the checkin folks.

Our walk was in search of a market in hopes of finding some snacks. We did not find a single food store in this neighborhood teaming with tourists. We wonder if the restaurant association is strong enough to keep the markets out. More likely it is uneconomical to use the land for anything but rooms to let. This was our loss.

We returned to our room until the housekeeper came. Then we relocated to the lobby for half an hour. When we returned our room was sparkling.

This entire day is devoted to my blog and Alice’s journal. I did manage to confirm our pick up time tomorrow with the livery service. We are all set for noon. That is checkout time, but it is early for our scheduled checkin. We will see what Azamara can do for us.

We did break at 2:00 for an early pizza dinner at the restaurant up the street where we found the Mediterranean Pizza on Saturday. It was pretty windy so we ate inside. The pizza was great. This was a much needed break.

We were in bed by 9:30.
