July 22 Mykonos, Greece

July 22, Friday- Mykonos, Greece

Today marks Alice’s first visit to Mykonos. We will travel on our own and I will try to use my memory of my visit 13 years ago to get us around. It is a tender port. We will start our visit by walking to the famous windmills of Mykonos. We left the dock and made our way along the waterfront to the windmills. This took us from nice wide paths to much narrower and uneven paths. In some places we walked through restaurant tables along the shore. Finally after a brief climb we were there. These may be the most photographed windmills in the world. We did not miss our chance to contribute to that honor.

After the windmills we followed whitewashed paths to the interior. An abundance of churches, jewelry shops, and churches kept us busy for hours.

True to our pattern we returned to Oosterdam after 4 hours and 4.5 miles of walking in oppressive heat. We have not had a bit of rain since we left home on July 2nd and the daytime temperature has ranged from 85 to 98 degrees. Cooler would be nice but this sure is not bad.

Mykonos has been called the island of millionaires. Jewelry prices bear that out. The yachts anchored here also support that.

We simply returned to our elegant Oosterdam to enjoy dinner and a sunset befitting our fine day.
