For this voyage we booked back to back cruises. The first one was for 19 days and the second one was for 24 days. As it turns out, unbeknownst to us, the first cruise combined a 7 day and a 12 day cruise. The second cruise combined a 12 day cruise and another 12 day cruise. That is fine because we are doing all that we want to. But we do have to endure 3 changeover days. Fortunately we do not have to change staterooms.
The first changeover was 12 days ago in Trieste. That was when we took the excursion to the caves of Postumia. Today the changeover took place in Civitavecchia. This is the port closest to Rome. We thought we would take the complimentary shuttle into town and skip the excursions to Rome. As it turned out that transfer was only to a bus terminal just outside the port. Passengers going to Rome independently were using this board public transport to Rome. It was cheaper than the ship’s transfers. It was very hot even this early in the morning . We decided to stay on the bus and return to the comfort of Oosterdam.
Upon our return to our stateroom we found beautiful flowers and delicious chocolate dipped strawberries that had been delivered while we were gone. They were from Bonnie, our travel advisor in celebration of our July birthdays. Wonderful!
This is all a long winded way of saying that we spent today trying to catch up on the blog and record keeping.
There was some fun too. When we first boarded we had embarkation photos taken. We usually do not do this, but it was so long since our last cruise we decided to have some taken. We had some time to talk with the 2 photographers because our check in went so smoothly that we were well ahead of other passengers. They were very friendly and professional. The photos would be on display after dinner.
We were very impressed with our photos when we saw them. We liked them so much that we purchased the full cruise package for our 19 days. This meant that we would get every photo they took printed on 8” x 11” stock and a flash drive with all of the originals.
We let them take our pictures at every dressy night at each of the 4 different stations they set up. We were also photographed in every port when we left the ship. Last night we picked up our package. We have not counted them yet, but there are well over 100 of them. Wonder of wonders almost all of them are good. We are not sure what we will do with them but we enjoy remembering how each was taken. We joke that Sean will have some nice pictures of us to display at our wakes. This is not in a morbid sense. We are just very pleased with the experience and the results.
This is all a long winded way of saying that we spent today trying to catch up on the blog and record keeping.
So all of this contributed to having a good day after all.
