July 31 Santorini, Greece

July 31,  Sunday - Santorini, Greece

We were late arriving at Santorini this morning because during the night we diverted to an unscheduled port due to a medical emergency. The passenger is recovering in hospital and although we will arrive 3 hours late it has been arranged for us to stay later. This will allow us to to remain at anchor for the sunset.

Alice and I took the tender to shore and purchased cable car tickets to transport us to Fiera, the city atop the mountain. We walked from the cable car to the Catholic Church for photo opportunities.

After that we did an extensive walk while checking out the shops. We saw many beautiful things and did not buy any. Back at the cable car station we purchased tickets to return to sea level and the tender. It was a satisfactory day. We did find that it had changed some in 9 years. The biggest difference was the change in the things being sold. We did not see a single tablecloth. They used to be in every shop except the jewelry stores. We are happy to have 2 that Sean gave us several years ago.

We were fortunate that due to our late arrival we left late. We were here for sunset and the night illumination.
