July 23 Sea Day

July 23, Saturday- Sea Day

This is a sea day. So what does that mean. Well, it could be a day at leisure or it could be a time to catch up on your projects or it could be a day full of shipboard activities.

For us it is a catch up day. How does that begin? Why with breakfast of course. Several cruises ago we discovered breakfast in the dining room. There are several reasons for this. Foremost are the excellent service and portion control.

Early in the cruise Zin, the assistant dining room manager, learned of our preference for a table for two with a view. In order to accommodate us she directed us to a table for four on the elevated portion of the dining room near the entrance. We would sit on the side of the table facing the sea view windows. The other 2 place settings were cleared. She made us feel like royalty at our elevated table where we not only had a view but we got to watch all of the coming’s and goings. How great is that?

On leaving, Zin asked how we liked the table. On learning that we loved it, she set it aside for us every day. That is the first level of excellent service.

The second level is our servers. They learned our breakfast preferences on the first day. Alice likes watermelon with berries or bananas and grits. Her sweets are 2 chocolate croissants with butter. I like vanilla Greek yogurt with mixed berries, vegetable frittata with Sam Al and a sexy bun with butter. Sexy bun is a pre-pause name for a raisin bun. Sambal is a red pepper Indonesian hot sauce. I spread it on the frittata and the waiters call that an Indonesian pizza. They knew our likes from that day on.

There you have it. This is our daily breakfast. I will discuss other meals on another sea day.

The balance of the day is dedicated to planning the next port days on Navigator, the in house online information system. Then I struggle with the real world internet to update this blog.
